Your First Day at Gamely Connect
Starting something new can feel overwhelming, especially when social situations are challenging. We get it. That's why we've designed every aspect of your first visit to be as comfortable and predictable as possible. Here's exactly what will happen when you join us at our Caboolture South gaming space.
Your Meet and Greet
Your first visit isn't a gaming session - it's a relaxed tour with one of our incredible Support Workers. This will happen while another session is running, so you will get a chance to see how Gamely Connect works! They'll show you around the space and let you check out our gaming setup. You can ask questions, or just look around quietly. Whatever feels right for you.
If you would like to take the next step, we will then ask if you would like help with any onboarding paperwork. You are welcome to take it home to decide later, or you can sit down with us and we can do it with you. Don't worry, we'll explain everything clearly and you can take your time reading through it.
Your First Gaming Session
When you arrive for your first actual session, here's what happens:
You will arrive and drop your bag in your personal cubby. You can help yourself to snacks or a drink from our kitchen area, or ask one of the support workers to help you make something.
You can then choose what you want to play. Maybe you'll jump straight onto your favourite PC game, challenge someone to Mario Kart, or browse our board game collection. If you would like some time to sit back and watch, that is okay too. Our support workers are there to help if needed, but they won't hover or force interaction.
Throughout the session play at your own pace. Take breaks whenever you need. Use the quiet corner if things feel overwhelming. Switch games if you get bored. Chat with others if you feel like it, or focus on your own game if you don't.
Staff will give you a 15-minute warning before session ends. This helps with transitions - we know sudden stops can be jarring. Finish up what you are doing, save your game, and head over to the group table when you’re ready.
For the final 15 minutes we usually gather around the table for a casual check-in. Share something about your day if you want, or just listen to others. We'll remind everyone about upcoming sessions and any special events.
Before you leave, you'll receive a welcome pack with some information you might need and a couple goodies!
After Your First Session
Our admin team will email to check how everything went and see if you need any adjustments for next time.
Remember: everyone here understands the courage it takes to try something new. Our staff, our existing participants - we've all been where you are. You belong here, exactly as you are.
